A
project like this comes along once in a lifetime. Still in its box,
bouncing from owner to owner for over three decades, it was finally
time for this Tudor to come alive.
With
box open and instructions in hand, a massive construction project
began. This is a wooden home with beautiful dark timbers. Even the
roof with all its peaks and valleys is made of hand split wood
shingles.
The
fireplace is massive with chimney to match. The stucco has weathered
well. This is an airy home with large windows to highlight the
natural light.
No
home is complete without its compliment of furniture. Several pieces
were secured from a local charity shop. Other pieces were hand
fashioned. Rest well in front of the fire. The only couch that will
do is leather.
Enjoy
a hot meal in the kitchen. From the hand formed copper sink and its
stand to the pantry shelf lined with cans to the large cook stove
and more. All furniture in this wonderful room was hand fashioned to
fit.
Notice
the beautiful wall hanging in the living room. With custom frame,
this picture comes to you from the 1800's. A Scribner's Magazine
picture illustration from 1890 was used to draw subtle attention to
its wall. What better way to support the half round table beneath
than with old cast-off pencils. Please don't sharpen them...they are
no longer for writing. Notice the medallion over the fireplace.
This is not a reproduction. This is a Roman coin. Nothing else would
work in this place of high honor.
If
you look upstairs in the study, you will see the world's smallest
books, complete with their bookcase. What study wouldn't be
complete without a human skull on the desk? It's a beautiful night to
peer at the stars. What better way than with a hand crafted
telescope. Yes, there was one more pencil in the lot.
There
are so many more items to describe. Layer on top of layer on top of
layer add a feel of dimension and realism. Look around. Stay a
while.
