An
old silverware box that had seen better days came home with us last
fall. We came up with several different ideas for it over the winter
but none seemed right. Do we make it a guy box or a jewelry box. It
almost became a custom humidor. None of our ideas seemed right for
this vintage piece of wood work, so it sat for the winter.
As
you can see, Kitty recently found her inspiration for this cast off
with the meeting of a new friend. The creating of Arctic Artique has
been a long process. Kitty has had to teach me everything from
scratch. We have come together and we have started to gel as a team.
Our work is becoming more creative with more meaning. All aspects
are being polished more with every piece we make.
Since
creating our Facebook page, we have had one local person in the arts
follow our posts, like our links and appreciate our work. She enjoys
Kittie's vision. When she and I first met, Kitty and I were treated
to several very nice and high quality products to try and use.
Gold
wax made the perfect finishing highlights for Eternal Patriot. We
also received several cans of Country Chic paints to use but were
unsure of where they were going to fit in with current projects.
This is where Kittie's unique vision came into play once again.
Perfection
is the name given to this bright purple chalk paint that serves as
the base coat for this transformed old box. After a major cleanup,
some glue and clamp work, and a thorough sanding, Perfection was
applied to the outer surfaces to change this vintage beauty from a
drab seventies brown to the vibrant colors you see here.
Decoupage
and different ideas swimming in her head complete the lid of this one
of a kind creation. The young lady's face comes from an old art
magazine cover that had been tossed. Kitty knew she could do
something with it. The scarf is real, laid down as if it had been
tied by the person wearing it. Everything you see was placed and
blended based on three questions Kitty asked our new friend on their
meeting. There is an old world feel to this piece which is a unique
trait of Kittie's work. The handles were added for ease of lifting.
Again, cast offs that someone bought for a project years ago but
never used.
The
interior was completely stripped out, all of the old paper and faded
felt removed. A thrift store mirror was added to the underside of
the lid and an elegant and bright wall paper now lines what was once
a dull felt to house the old silver the box was originally intended
for.
All
surfaces of this beauty have been touched in one way or another,
including the bottom which had feet added to give the illusion this
box is suspended above the surface it resides on.
This
was a fast, furious, and fun project to create. Especially enjoyable
for me was the look on her face when I sat this box on her counter
yesterday and informed her that this aptly named creation was for
her.
Arctic
Artique is genuinely honored to preset 'Pascale' to our new friend
Pascale.
