Just
In Time For Summer
As
always, when a plan is put together and priorities are made, things
get fluid. Meaning...Everything has changed! Other projects that I
have shown have now been put on hold, so we can knock out some quick
finishes and get our space back!
Todays
project was to clean the front deck, clean up this very nice wood
deck/patio furniture set and get pictures.
All
four pieces are Recycle, Repurpose Reuse. The matching teak table,
bench and chair set were found at our local Salvation Army thrift
store. Everything was in pieces, dingy, and melting back into the
ground behind the building. Kitty, with her eye for finding
worthwhile projects tromped to the back of the building while I kept
watching to see if we were going to get in trouble. Yep, I've come a
ways since then. After talking to the manager and making a $10
dollar donation, this pile of stuff was tossed to the back of the
truck. I guess I don't have to tell you that I didn't understand
what she was up to and wasn't too happy at the time.
Well
, we got them all home and my assessment began. All of the pieces
were still there and nothing was broken. There was some missing
hardware, but I could deal with that later. All pieces received a
thorough sanding and cleaning before I started assembling the jigsaw
puzzle. Everything turned out better than I could have imagined.
When assembly was complete I was surprised to find just how sturdy
this nice little set was. Not bad for an amateur! Victory Red is
the color that was chosen and these have all received a couple coats
of paint. All in all, this became a very nice furniture set with a
little imagination, ingenuity, and elbow grease. Again, this was
Kittie's vision for what she found.
Now,
turning to the color matching Adirondack Chair that completes this
set. Again, Kitty pulled it out of a dumpster while I hung my head
and said what am I gonna do with that. It was in sad shape. I did
as she wanted and put the old broken down and rotting chair in the
truck. After I wrapped my dumb, resistant to change, do things my
way, autistic brain around what was happening, this turned into a
very cool and fun project. This was also one of
the first projects I learned to take pictures of as I went along.
First,
the chair was completely disassembled. I had old boards laying
everywhere. Sanding and evaluation was next. The paint was an old
faded robins egg blue that was peeling everywhere. There were a
couple of boards that needed replacing, but otherwise the wood was
still in good condition. After I was finished with the teardown and
look phase, reconstruction began. Again, this was fun (I can't
imagine not doing this stuff now). I got to play with glue and my
clamps that I had recently bought. Tight Bond is some good stuff.
Once it cures, your work is not coming apart. A little more touch up
sanding, a couple coats of Victory Red, and this beautiful Adirondack
Chair has just received an entirely new life.
There's
today's update. For anyone new, keep checking back to see what we
get into next. For anyone returning, thank you for stopping by
again. Our hope and goal is that you enjoy watching us Artique.
