All
in a Days Work
Today
brought something completely unexpected. Kitty had found this old
window bench early during the winter. It was beat up, worn out, and
not much to look at. What a difference a day makes.
Both
our projects went on hold as we decided it was time to make something
cool and get it done. This beautiful cushioned bench is the result
of that decision.
Starting
with the cushioned top, the old red and faded cover with worn out
foam is gone. A perfectly sized roll of foam fit on top very nicely,
with minimal trimming. Covering everything is a beautiful vintage
woven tapestry. The mountains and trees complement each other
perfectly in different shades of greens and browns. The vintage piece
of fabric that Kitty has been hanging on to for years was the perfect
choice for the covering.. Looking at it, you would think you are
seeing a watercolor scene from somewhere in Alaska during spring
time.. A nice heavy green suede fabric adorns the bottom to hide the
platform from sight. It adds a very nice finished touch.
This
is a large bench which measures 48x28 inches and stands 20 inches to
the cushion. The frame is vintage, made from metal with wood legs.
There are a few nicks and chips here and there in the wood, but this
only adds to the uniqueness of this one of a kind Artiqued bench.
Everything about this frame is solid. With care, this will last 100
years. The bench was cleaned thoroughly and then lightly painted
with a gloss black. After drying, a thin copper spray just flecked
all of the surfaces making an elegant yet modern look.
This
was a fun project and now it's time to show it. Thanks for taking a
look and let us know what you think!
