Hi all and welcome back. It's been a whirlwind couple of weeks now that I'm home. If you remember, I mentioned a possible business venture for Kitty. I'll start tonight off with a little more detail.

Kitty has been an antique dealer for quite some time. She has a great eye and eclectic taste. She knows how to unearth unique and sought after mementos of the past. Please don't call her a picker. Kitty is so much more than that.

She has come into an opportunity in Wasilla to help build an herbal, spiritual, and curiosities store that has fallen on a few hard times. This is right up Kitty's alley. She's run stores such as this before. She not only sells it, she is the lifestyle of her product. This is a once in a lifetime opportunity and we have decided to go for it. We will be moving to Wasilla either after or during fire season.

Speaking of fire season, my helicopter is in the state now. We go to camp in just over one week. Kyle, thanks for enjoying my stories and pictures! I will have more helicopter posts very soon!

AeroTech has a big Ford van that is used to transport crewmembers in Fairbanks and to store parts and stuff that we don't need to take to camp. This van will sit at the helibase on Fort Wainwright for the duration of the contract. This van was also sitting in a hangar in Seldovia which is 700 miles and a boat ride away from Fairbanks.

Yesterday, I flew to Homer and started driving the van toward home. I had to fly through Anchorage and meet the van after it came off the ferry for Kachemak Bay. I made it to Wasilla before finding a room. This was a long trip.

This morning I got up early and hauled it on to Fairbanks. The weather was great, the traffic light, and Alaska is just beginning to wake up from winter.

Between Trapper Creek and Cantwell is a roadside park or rest area. This is the Alaska Veteran's Memorial Park. It is probably the nicest stop in Alaska. This state does a very good job of honoring it's veterans and this memorial is no exception.

Most people don't realize that the native population made up the Alaska guard during WWII and did defend Alaska from the Japanese. They have been honored here also.

It was very quiet taking these pictures. The tourists aren't here yet. The melting snow is showing mementos that were covered in white last fall. This was a very powerful and moving moment for me.

Enjoy the pictures and think about the young men and women who put their lives on the line to defend our freedom. As for me...I'm going back to work. There is still much to be done before heading to Galena.
