A Properly Artiqued Wine Tray

This was a fun project. Kitty and I worked on this tray about three days. I was the grunt...she was the visionary.

This was originally an old wine tray that had been around a while and had seen a lot of use. It had been knocked around and showed many battle scars and badges of honor from many late night wine tasting sessions. It is now ready for many more parties to come.
We started by painting the outside a bright festive red and silver on the interior. Offsetting the red on top is a deep rich purple ring. Bands of purple and copper ring the bottom with a thin coat of polyurethane protecting all surfaces. Four sturdy wooden feet have been added for a nice 3D effect when displayed. The wooden beads used have also been felted for extra protection of the surface it sits on.

We added matching handles on either end. These were repurposed from an old box full of kitchen hardware we found a while back. I found the screws for them from another project in the works now. I've got to find screws again!

So, do you like rhinestones and lots of them? It took about a day to glue and place all of the sparkly little plastic shapes. That got tedious. Kitty and I took turns gluing and sticking and sorting pieces. There is no pattern. There are a few minnie patterns here and there but otherwise this is completely random. After all the rhinestones were in place and secure, we tossed a couple tins of micro beads around just to add some color.

The rhinestones looked kind of blah just glued in and sitting there. They wouldn't be very sturdy either. There was only one solution for this issue. Enviro Tex Lite. This is a thick two part resin that hardens to a smooth shine when it cures. We poured two layers to prevent air bubbles from building up. In all this is about 3/8th inch thick. It is smooth, sturdy, and what a visual effect it gives. Shine a light and look at the reflections everywhere. There is something different every time you look.

It's a one of a kind. This catches your eyes. This is another recycle, repurpose, reuse project. Most important. This project was fun!
