While
I was on my mini trip yesterday, I did a lot of driving. This particular spot has a good story to
it. As you can see, a road was cut into
the side of this mountain, hill, butte, or whatever it is called here. I am not really sure.
The
road is gravel and you are up there when you get to the top. The long distance view is incredible. As I curved around to the backside of this
road while still going up, I saw a view that I couldn’t resist.
I
stopped the car on this steep grade, grabbed my camera as fast as I could, and
then jumped out of the car to take pictures.
It seems I forgot one minute detail in my rush to digitize the world
around me.
When
you get out of a vehicle on a steep incline to take breath taking pictures,
always make sure to put said vehicle in park!
I
have envisioned this phone call to my employer several times since this
happened only yesterday.
This
is how the conversation would have gone.
Hey boss, I have a slight issue here.
You see, the rental car rolled backwards off the road and down at least
a 500 foot cliff. As it was bouncing and
rolling and tossing down the side of the mountain, the gas tank blew, causing
the car to go up in flames. It is so hot
and dry here that about 10,000 acres of hay are now on fire due to the car
erupting in a fire storm. All of the
area wildland fire fighters are now trying to put this fire out, while a hard
wind is blowing. The good news is that
the helicopter is working nonstop for now.
Hey, Quick question…how up to date is the company liability insurance
for the rental car?
Yep,
I had a fun filled and interesting day!
