Musher's
Cafe
Since
I never quite know what I will write about, that makes it interesting
for you the reader. This post is a plug for a local restaurant with
a purpose.
Musher's
Cafe which will be opening soon in Fairbanks, Alaska is a very
worthwhile project of a gentleman named Bill who is the Executive
Director of Adult Learning Programs of Alaska.
This
is a non-profit organization that works with mentally and physically
handicapped people who would otherwise have no access to learning a
skill or trade. Musher's Cafe will be a small cafe where handicapped
(rather handicapable) adults can work, be mentored and learn how to
work, live and thrive in a restaurant environment. This is a hell of
an idea, and my wife and I wish him well.
Along
with wishing him well, my wife has been appointed as Chief Art
Groupie, and as such is in charge of decorating the cafe with her art
and mushing/dogsledding memorabilia, which she has quite a bit of as
she is an old musher! Along with everything else I am working on and
blogging about, I have decided with Kitty Wolf's encouragement to
give periodic updates of the progress of Musher's Cafe!
Please
look up Musher's Cafe on Facebook and show your support with a like
for Bill. He is basically a one man show that could use your
support. His goal is to have the cafe open by the time the Yukon
Quest begins. As I said before, Kitty and I will be helping him in
any way possible. He could use some help if you have the time.
Thank you for your support!
