Our latest snow event is now done and the sun is once again peeking through the clouds. The days are getting longer. Break up is not far away. The weather here has been strange this year. We have had lots of snow. The temperature has been up and down for months. It got so warm the last few days that our road fell apart. Everybody living back in this area was stuck in place, nobody was able to get in or out.

I ended up burying my truck. It got warm enough that the hard pack turned to mush. As I cleared what I thought to be the bad spot in the road, the truck sank. I dug for a couple hours, cut spruce limbs, and even went back to the our cabin find to all the plywood I could, to try and drive out of the hole on. Nothing worked. I was stuck in the middle of our main road. A neighbor came out to help with his truck. I had given up on trying to drive out of this hole. We hooked up, he pulled and yanked, but my truck didn't budge. His truck just wasn't big enough to unstick me.

I then got to meet another neighbor. Living up the street from me, he has a big old Ford F250 that is a work truck. This old beast is heavy and stout. He shifted to reverse, pressed the throttle, and didn't even spin a tire as he drug me out of the hole. I was free! Our next challenge was backing his truck along the trail until he could get to the first turn around spot. He almost made it. With about 50 feet to go, he had one tire slip from the hard stuff and down he went. Just like that, we were now digging him out. What a fun day that turned out to be.

We let the landlord know what had happened and he got to work. The next morning, a loader was moving snow. It went from the top of the road to the end of the last driveway moving bucket after bucket. All the hard pack was removed and we have a smooth and safe road to get home on now!

It has been busy since getting home. We made the decision to buy tires for our truck yesterday. We couldn't really afford them, but ours had gotten to the point that we couldn't afford not to get them. This was a new set four years ago, but four years in Alaska will beat down even the best set of tires. This had turned into a mix master set, with most of the tread gone and a couple of different brands mixed in together. Okay for summer driving but dangerous for winter. We got our moneys worth out of that set but it was past time to say our goodbyes and meet some new tire friends. It is unbelievable how much better and safer our ride is already!

I hope you don't mind but I was so busy digging that I took no pictures of this latest event. I have included pictures out of the past for this post. Some you have seen before, others I just like and hope you do to. Before I leave you for today, I wanted to say thank you to all who check in on my life with Kitty and Ally. We are now closing in on our 10,000th view. I never would have thought that possible two years ago when Kitty finally got me to start writing. As always, she was right. I do enjoy sharing my life with you!
